Tony Award Winning Actor Passes Away After Losing Battle With Cancer

The news broke after former co-star Baayork Lee made the shocking announcement on Facebook.

Fans were heartbroken to read the news that the original “A Chorus Line” star had passed away.

But it wasn’t until today that the news was confirmed by family spokeswoman and friend Brandee Barnaby.

Sammy Williams died of cancer on Saturday, March 17 in Los Angeles. He was only 69 years old.

The actor and dancer won a Tony Award in 1976 for his work in the original Broadway production of “A Chorus Line.”

Williams had other earlier smaller parts on Broadway in “Applause” and “The Happy Time.”

Later in life he became a choreographer, director, and actor. He also appeared in “Follies” at the Ahmanson Theatre in 2012.

In conjunction to his stage work, he also appeared on screen in “God Told Me To,” as well as, “The Day of the Triffids,” and “The Take.”

His one man show “And the Winner Is” played through out the Los Angeles area and major cities across the US.
