Dog Left Tied to Stop Sign in Hurricane, New Owner Finds Secret Thousands of Miles Away

Share

It’s been a big year for a dog named Ollie, who survived Hurricane Harvey in 2017 only to be abandoned and later adopted by a woman named Kristina.

Little is known about Ollie’s life before Hurricane Harvey devastated coastal Texas. In the aftermath of the storm’s fury, many animal lives were displaced, leaving them homeless, stranded, and fighting to survive.

In an effort to rehome as many abandoned animals as possible after the hurricane, rescue organizations moved dogs to neighboring states. Ollie was one of them.

He’d been found tied to a stop sign in the aftermath of the hurricane.

Rescuers determined Ollie would fare best by moving to Birmingham, Alabama, and that’s where he met his new owner, Kristina.

“Our eyes met and I knew he was going to be my furry friend forever,” Kristina said, who had been on the hunt for the perfect emotional support animal.

Meanwhile, in Long Island, New York, a couple named Hye and San had adopted the perfect dog of their own.

After two years of searching for just the right pup, they fell in love with Daegyeon the moment they met him.

Hye and San were curious about Daegyeon’s breed, wondering if he was maybe a pit bull and retriever mix.

They decided to dig a little deeper into Daegyeon’s history by using a DNA dog kit called Embark.

Would you try a DNA kit for your dog?

Hye and San were shocked and thrilled when they learned that Daegyeon had a fur-sibling who had done the Embark DNA test as well. It was Ollie; The two were a part of the same litter.

Once Ollie and Daegyeon’s parents connected with one another, they knew they had to get their boys together.

Kristina and Ollie took a plane to New York, where they met Hye, San and Daegyeon at a dog park.

The pet owners watched with delight as the two dogs soaked up the reunion. The dogs had a noticeable chemistry, the owners agreed, seeming to know that they were connected in a special way.

The owners keep in touch and plan to get the dogs together again in the future. Next time, they hope to meet in Alabama.
