Elderly Woman Filmed Handing Out Food to Homeless in Bitter Cold
A 72-year-old woman from the United Kingdom is warming hearts worldwide for faithfully passing out soup to homeless people on cold nights.
Every night except Thursdays, 72-year-old Diana can be spotted on the streets wearing a warm winter coat and pushing a small shopping cart.
When Diana sees a homeless person in need, she reaches into her cart and pulls out a cup of warm, nourishing soup.
Diana is volunteering with a local church, St. Swithuns, and never expected her routine act of kindness to go viral online.
On Feb. 13, passerby Charlie Franks spotted Diana in Southsea, Portsmouth, passing out soup on a bitterly cold night.

Franks filmed the unsuspecting woman as she handed out soup to two people and struck up a conversation with them. Franks later posted his video online, writing that his “faith in humanity is restored.”
“She makes a load of soup and goes out to hand it to the homeless!” Franks wrote.
Diane’s daughter, Katy Elizabeth, told the Daily Mail that her 72-year-old mother regularly volunteers with St. Swithuns church.
“She’s been caught out, she’s supposed to tell me and Ian when she goes so we know she is back!” Katy Elizabeth said of her mother’s fierce independence.
But from the looks of things, Diana isn’t concerned with her own safety — she’s more concerned with the health and wellbeing of others.
“When I saw what she was doing it blew my mind,” Franks told Portsmouth media outlet The News.
“You obviously hear about homeless people and how bad it is today,” Franks said. “So to see someone doing something like this to help really got to me.”
Franks spoke with Diana and learned that she serves soup six nights a week, taking Thursday nights off.
“It was the most selfless act,” he said.
Franks said he gave Diana £20 to help her cause, “but if I had £200 I would have given it to her.” He hopes others will consider giving to Diana, too.
