Husband of 45 Years Learns To Style Wife’s Hair After She Has Stroke

Share

Meet Theresa and Andrew, a Texas couple who will celebrate their 45th wedding anniversary this year. Their story has gone viral for the most beautiful reason, and it all started on Mother’s Day.

Theresa, who opted not to disclose her last name, received a gift certificate to a salon for Mother’s Day from her three children.

Theresa visited Foundry Salon in New Braunfels, Texas, and was delighted with the results.

“She got her hair done and fell in love with it,” the couple’s son, Steve, told TODAY Style. “Well, that next morning, she took a shower and it fell down — she couldn’t get it back to the way they had styled it.”

Theresa suffered a stroke 18 years ago, and struggles with the daily task of styling her own hair.

That’s when her devoted husband, Andrew, stepped in to see if he could help.

In the most heartwarming of actions, Andrew returned to the salon and bought some hair products with the intention of styling his wife’s hair himself.

He loved seeing how happy she was over the lovely new hairstyle, and wanted to recreate the same joy for her each day.

When Theresa’s hairstylist, Andrea Gomez, realized what Andrew was doing, she was moved. Gomez offered to teach Andrew everything he needed to know to style Theresa’s hair on his own, and Andrew happily accepted.

The next day, Theresa was back at the salon as Gomez showed her eager student all the ins and outs of Theresa’s hairstyle. Fellow hairstylist Raigen Kelly captured the sweet moment on camera — a video that has since been viewed over 16 million times.

Nicci Meyer, the salon’s operations coordinator, said Andrew was a terrific student. Andrew asked many questions, and learned as much as he could about the different tools and products involved.

“He really wanted to make sure that he was doing a good job for her,” Meyer told TODAY. “And that she would love the end result as much as she did when she left the salon.”

Steve has watched his father selflessly care for Theresa day after day, without complaint. When his parents were hesitant to talk about their viral story, Steve convinced them that their inspiring tale of love was one the world needed to hear.

Steve said Andrew has been diligently practicing the hairstyle and is doing quite well on his own with it. Sacrificial love is so beautiful.
