Kathie Lee Gifford's Directorial Debut in Stunning Short Film 'The God Who Sees'

Share

When Kathie Lee Gifford announced the decision to focus her career on producing faith-based music and film projects, her audience was left to wonder what Gifford had in mind.

Gifford has a lifetime of artistic and entertainment experience, including runs on Broadway as an actress, years as the co-host of “Live with Regis and Kathie Lee” and most recently, as the co-host of the fourth hour of the “Today” show.

Gifford has her own record label, she sings, she writes, she performs and in 2015, she was inducted into the Broadcast & Cable Hall of Fame, according to a biography written on her latest project page, “The God Who Sees.”

After watching and waiting for Gifford’s first faith-based project to emerge, audiences can now lay eyes and ears on her debut short film, “The God Who Sees.”

Filmed in Israel, the 12-minute story is spoken and sung by Christian music artist Nicole Mullen.

The film tells the stories of Biblical characters Hagar, Ruth, David and Mary Magdalene, who once found themselves in dry, lonely places, wondering if anybody — even God — saw, knew or cared about their suffering.

Do you think Gifford's debut film was a success?

Mullen and Gifford spoke at length about the making of the film, crediting one another and their extended team members for producing such a beautiful, powerful film.

“I think we knew right away that God was giving us something special,” Gifford said in a video produced by The Rock, The Road, and The Rabbi Foundation.

“Kathie really came with a brilliant idea, she really did,” Mullen said. “She had the framework already set up and so it was pretty much putting the walls in and painting the walls.”

After a brief writing session, the women went to Nashville to meet with music producer and arranger Sal Oliveri, who laid down the moving keyboard melody underneath Mullen’s voice.

Thrilled with the way the project was moving while collaborating with Oliveri, Gifford had another flash of brilliance: to travel to Israel and film the story in some of the most breathtaking scenery on earth.

Gifford said she had traveled to Israel many times before and knew exactly where she wanted to film.

“It needed the Holy Land,” Gifford said. “It needed to set this woman representing all the people in the desert experiences that they’re having.”

Mullen said that working with Gifford has raised the standards she sets for herself as an artist, woman and mother.

“Just seeing her heart, her heart for people, her excellence, has really just raised the bar for me,” Mullen said.

Gifford hopes the film might encourage people to journey to Israel and explore the Christian faith firsthand, and that the presence of God would fill the hearts of viewers as they watch her debut film.

With a project this powerful, Gifford’s fans can hardly wait to find out what else this brilliant mind has in store.
