Man Enjoying Cool Air Riddled with Guilt, Buys As Many Air Conditioners As He Can Afford for the Poor
Chad Foster is a tattoo artist and businessman making a living in Schenectady, New York.
He runs his own shop, I & I Tattoo, and recently decided to leave a lasting non-ink impression on his local community with a random act of kindness.
Before opening his own business, Foster taught special education for almost a decade. He’s always had a heart for kids.
And when an impulsive thought entered his head during a hot summer day, Foster decided to run with it. It happened while Foster was enjoying his own air-conditioned home and workspaces.
He realized how miserable day-to-day life would be without air conditioning. So he made a trip to Home Depot and bought a half-dozen air conditioning units to give away.
“So I just left Home depot with as many air conditioners as I could afford,” Foster wrote on his Facebook page. “If you know of a family with kids that can’t afford one, let me know!!!!”
“(If they drive an Escalade and don’t work, don’t contact me),” he added. He wanted to make sure the recipients were truly in need of help.
Foster asked that potential benefactors privacy be upheld, writing, “don’t tag them, just message me.”
Foster’s offer quickly gained steam, as people began sharing the post and messaging friends they thought might benefit.
Comments of support and praise flooded Foster’s post, as people thanked him for such a kind, compassionate act.
Foster said he never expected to end up a news story.
“I didn’t expect it to take off like it did,” Foster told WNYT. “I was just trying to help some local people out.”
Six thankful families are now enjoying cool air, thanks to Foster. He told WNYT that he wished he could do more, but we think what he’s already done is inspiring.
Foster told WTHR that he benefited from the good deed, too.
“Feels good to do stuff for other people and I’m lucky to be in a position that I can,” Foster said.
He’s not sure when the next round of good deeds will strike, but Foster said he plans to find more ways to give back.
