Michael Buble Reportedly Quits Music, Gives 'Last Interview' During Son's Battle with Cancer

UPDATE: According to a fact check published by The Associated Press about a week after this article was first published, Michael Buble is not planning to retire anytime soon.

According to the AP:

“The Canadian singer says he is not retiring from music despite reports circulating online. In an interview with The Associated Press, Buble disputed a report in the Daily Mail that said he would quit music after the release of his upcoming album ‘Love,’ due out Nov. 16. The report suggested that the Grammy-winning singer was stepping away from music for good following his son Noah’s cancer battle. Buble responded to the report saying, ‘I’ll keep going until the news of my death comes out, which will probably be fake too.’ The Daily Mail said it stands by its reporting.”

Seasons of intense suffering have a way of changing your perspective on life, forcing you to evaluate your priorities and contemplate some of life’s bigger questions.

Celebrity singer Michael Buble, 43, had his world turn upside down when his oldest son, Noah, was diagnosed with liver cancer at age three.

The diagnosis and subsequent treatment plan for little Noah sent Buble and his wife, Argentinian actress Luisana Lopilato, on a roller coaster of emotions.

Noah, now 5, is in remission. But the ordeal has left a lasting mark on Buble’s soul, prompting him to make some serious decisions about his family and career.

“You just want to die,” Buble said, speaking of Noah’s diagnosis in an interview with Daily Mail’s Weekend magazine. “I don’t even know how I was breathing.”

Buble reportedly revealed to the Daily Mail his intent to retire from the spotlight.

“I don’t have the stomach for it anymore. The celebrity narcissism,” Buble said. “This is my last interview. I’m retiring.”

Do you think Buble is done with music for good?

The star continued, speaking of changes he has already implemented in his life:

“I decided I’ll never read my name again in print, never read a review, and I never have. I decided I’d never use social media again, and I never have,” he said.

Watching his son Noah fight for his life forced Buble to re-evaluate the trajectory of his life.

“Why are we here? Is this all there is?” Buble said. “Because if this is all there is, there has to be something bigger. My whole being’s changed. My perception of life.”

Buble has an album on the way, titled, “Love.” He allegedly is retiring from music following the release of the album.

Buble is satisfied with the album, Daily Mail reported, decidedly seizing this window of opportunity to step away from fame and soak up the time with his family.

“I’ll never put the ego of the job ahead of my family,” he told The Sunday Mirror’s Notebook Magazine. “It’s the reason I’ve been gone for a couple of years. There was never a choice (when Noah was ill).”

Buble and his 31-year-old wife Lopilato have three children together. Their oldest is Noah, followed by son Elias, two, and newborn daughter Vida, two months old.

Only time will tell what Buble actually does with his career, but one thing seems certain: the singer understands there is far more to life than fame and fortune.
