After Mom of 3 Gets Engaged, Ex-Husband Takes to Facebook and Writes Viral Post

A divorced father from Texas has written some powerful words in response to the news that his ex-wife recently became engaged.

Blake Higginbotham is a small business owner and the father of three young children. He knows firsthand the pain and trials that come with divorce.

Looking at photos of his ex-wife gushing with joy over the fresh engagement ring on her finger, Higginbotham took to social media to share his thoughts.

“This is my ex-wife. The mother of my 3 children,” Higginbotham wrote. “The woman who brought all 3 of my children into this world.”

He explained that he and his then-wife, Heather Higginbotham, married young. Three kids later, their strained marriage ended with a bitter divorce.

The couple was left trying to figure out how to co-parent, a rocky road that took years to navigate.

But Higginbotham wants to encourage other divorced parents that hope, joy and even a healthy love for your ex-spouse can come out of a divorce.

Three years after their divorce, Higginbotham said, his relationship with Heather is much different.

“We share the kids evenly and support them in everything they do,” he said. “We act as a team.”

Higginbotham went on to wish his ex-wife and her new spouse all the best in their new marriage.

“The man she’s with is a great guy. He’s great to my kids and they love him to death,” he said. “As a father, I couldn’t ask for anything more.”

His ex-wife’s new relationship has actually become something that Higginbotham feels thankful for.

“To anyone divorced, I encourage you with all of me to try and look at this from a different angle,” Higginbotham said.

“Just because you didn’t workout as husband and wife doesn’t mean you can’t be mom and dad.”

Higginbotham’s post has spread like wildfire, with people across the country applauding this couple for their intentionality in healthy co-parenting.

And of course, Heather read the post.

“We make a great team! And are so blessed!” she wrote. “Its been rocky but i couldn’t ask for a better coparenting relationship than how it is now. What we always hoped we’d have for our children. Thank you Blake!!”

The words of mutual respect that have come from Blake and Heather have been encouraging and inspiring to other parents in similar situations.

The road may not always be easy, but being mature enough to put the hearts and souls of three tiny humans above adult conflict is always worth the effort.
