Mother Can't Contain Her Excitement as She Rings Bells To Announce She Is Cancer Free
When breast cancer survivor Lakesha Ball stepped up to ring a bell, signifying that she was cancer-free, she thanked God first.
“These crosses, you’ll probably see me with them every day because he did it for me,” Ball said. “He did it for me.”
Ball, from Columbia, Maryland, told WBFF-TV that she was diagnosed with breast cancer in May of 2017.
In December of that same year, Ball found another lump and knew her journey was far from over.
For two years, Ball endured painful radiation treatments, a partial mastectomy, and three rounds of chemotherapy at the University of Maryland Proton Center.
Through it all, Ball says, the Lord was with her. God provided her with a talented team of doctors and supportive friends and family to help her endure the fight.
“I never got discouraged, never sad,” Ball said. “I walked with God the whole way, prayed the whole time.”
On March 11, Ball marched up to the bell at the Proton Center, eager to ring it with all her might to shout to the world that she was cancer free.
“When it came time for me to ring the bell, I got there super early,” she said. “I was super excited. My whole family was there.”
“I was determined to ring that bell, I almost pulled that bell off the wall!”

Stepping up to the bell, Ball thanked God for healing her body. To the cheers and screams of her audience, Ball unleashed a flood of emotions on that bell, ringing with an unabashed joy that she said could not be tamed.
“All that pain, that agony — everything I’ve been through, I released on that bell when I rang it,” she said. “When I walked out of that clinic that day, I am free, that’s all I can say. I am free.”
