Mother Screams with Joy When Sailor Daughter Shows Up at Work for Heartwarming Surprise
It’s a scene all military families can relate to: bidding a loved one farewell as he or she leaves for the military. Families share brave hugs and go their separate ways, knowing life going forward will look different.
It had been over a year since U.S. Navy-bound Allyson Boltinghouse hugged her mother goodbye and left for boot camp.
The months that followed the farewell would be a major transition for both mother and daughter.
Boltinghouse spent six months at boot camp and went straight into technical training. Meanwhile, her mother Sherry went to work each day at Fort King Middle School in Ocala, Florida.
Over a year went by before Boltinghouse was able to make it back home. She decided to surprise her mom while Sherry was at work.
Holding a large iced coffee for her mom, Boltinghouse made her way through the school cafeteria.
Navigating through the kitchen area, the sailor grinned at her mother’s colleagues, who of course were surprised to see a uniformed sailor coming through.
Eventually, Boltinghouse made it to the room where her mother worked. Upon seeing her daughter, Sherry burst into tears and let out a shriek.
Sherry wrapped her daughter in a big bear hug, tears streaming down her face. Boltinghouse managed to hang onto the very full cup of coffee as her mother danced the pair back and forth in excitement.
Time seemed to stand still as mother and daughter embraced. We don’t know if Sherry ever sipped her coffee, but obviously, she was much more elated over the gift of having her daughter home.
For Sherry, the moment will likely be unforgettable. The surprise homecoming was a smashing success.
“It was pure joy when I saw her standing there in the doorway,” Sherry said. “This was the first time I had ever been away from her for such a long length of time.”
According to Inside Edition, Boltinghouse serves as an aviation boatswain’s mate handler, “playing a major part in launching and recovering naval aircraft from land and ships.” Thank you for serving!
