Robin Williams' Son Pays Tribute to Late Father With Name of First-Born Child

Share

Zak Williams, the eldest child of the late Robin Williams, is a new dad! Zak, 36, and his fiancée, Olivia June, welcomed a son who was born on May 22.

The couple chose to honor the life and legacy of Robin Williams by naming their son after his late grandfather.

They named the 8-pound bundle McLaurin Clement Williams — the baby’s first name was Robin’s middle name.

McLaurin is the first child for both Zak and Olivia, who plan to call him Mickey.

Proud aunt Zelda Williams, 29, took to Instagram to share two sweet photos of the baby, one close-up of McLaurin’s tiny body, and the second photo featuring the new family of three.

“He’s a squishably cute pterodactyl cooing tiny wonder and I love him so much already,” Zelda Williams wrote on Instagram.

Olivia June also shared the heartwarming news on social media, explaining that she and her family decided to keep the news of McLaurin’s birth private for a time.

“My fiancé, Zak, and I were so happy to welcome baby McLaurin to the world on May 22nd. We are beyond thrilled he chose us to be his parents, and obviously think he’s the best, smartest, and cutest baby ever!!” she wrote on Instagram.

June is the founder and CEO of Hey! VINA, an app that helps connect women to their community and form friendships. She added that she is “excited” to be taking on the new role of motherhood with Zak by her side.

“None of this would be possible without the most incredible and supportive partner a woman could ever hope for,” June wrote. “Zak, the headline is true, you’re already and will always be, ‘World’s Greatest Dad!'”

Since the death of his father, Zak has become a mental-health advocate, speaking openly about the painful loss of his father. Robin Williams died on August 11, 2014, almost five years before McLaurin was born.

“There’s no education in place to tell you how to deal with this,” Zak told Faces of Fortitude in an interview that was published just days after his son’s birth. “To balance how to grieve privately with your family and then also to have to grieve publicly.”

In addition to his work as an entrepreneur and Angel investor, Zak serves on the board of Bring Change To Mind, an organization dedicated to removing stigmas surrounding mental health and encouraging healthy conversation around the topic.
