The Singing Superintendent Is Back! This Time with 'Uptown Funk' Cover To Announce Snow Day

Share

Missouri Valley Schools Superintendent Brent Hoesing is back in action with another song parody to announce a school closure.

Hoesing, who has been with the Iowa school district for two years, has made a name for himself by singing each time Missouri Valley schools close because of snow.

Hoesing knows that snow days, while fun at first, are also inconvenient.

“Calling a snow day is the worst part of my job because you impact so many people immediately, you have students that aren’t going to get a meal, parents that aren’t gonna be able to go to work,” Hoesing told KMTV.

So Hoesing chooses to deliver the news in creative ways, writing parody lyrics to popular songs and posting them on YouTube for district families (and us) to enjoy.

“It’s just something that hopefully puts a smile on someone’s face,” Hoesing said.

When we last heard Hoesing sing, it was to the 90’s Backstreet Boys hit, “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back).”

On Jan. 22, Hoesing announced the district’s latest snow day closure with Mark Ronson’s hit song “Uptown Funk” featuring Bruno Mars.

“Another snow day gonna give it to ya… another snow day gonna give it to ya,” he sang.

“Tuesday mornin’ just stay inside, maybe play some Fortnite.”

Hoesing’s lyrics are catchy and funny, but he doesn’t spend much time agonizing over them.

“Usually if I can’t figure out lyrics in the first 10 minutes I just move away from the song, it either comes or it doesn’t,” said Hoesing.

In addition to his latest two hits, Hoesing has performed “Ice Ice Baby,” “Let It Snow,” “Can’t Stop the Feeling!” and “Johnny B. Goode.”

Hoesing is taking a risk in putting himself out there, but he hopes it will show his students that they can take risks in life, too.

“You expect your students to take chances and if you’re not gonna take the same chances that they are you’re kinda being a hypocrite,” Hoesing said.

And so he sings, dancing and grooving in front of a camera wearing a pair of sunglasses and a wide grin.

Cheesy choreography? Yes. Worth the smiles of students and parents district-wide? Absolutely.
