Video: Mom Gives Her Daughter Hilarious 1980s Transformation
With the guidance of her ’80s-obsessed mom, a tween girl discovered how fantastic it was to dress like a teenager in the decade of big hair.
Meet Lola Holderness, a 12-year-old girl from Raleigh, North Carolina. Lola lives with her parents, Penn and Kim Holderness, and her younger brother, Penn Charles, 9.
Lola has the fortune (or misfortune) of having a mother who was an American teenager in the 1980s.
Kim Holderness is a devout fan of the ’80s, celebrating the good old days of damaged hair, T-shirts with rolled sleeves and electric blue eye makeup.
With Lola cringing good-naturedly by her mother’s side, Kim Holderness began what could possibly be described as one of her greatest parental achievements: giving her daughter an ’80s makeover.
Lola was skeptical when her mom handed her an oversized, white and neon Vuarnet France T-shirt, and showed her how to tuck it into a pair of Z. Cavaricci jeans.
The jeans, Kim said, cost approximately $245 dollars these days. She planned to return the pair she purchased for Lola, but pointed out that any viewer who has a pair stashed away in their closet could make some big money selling them online.
Once Lola was dressed, Kim presented her with bright white high top shoes and helped Lola roll her jeans tightly around her ankles.
Then, Kim got to work on her daughter’s hair and makeup, using a crimping iron, hair spray and bright blue makeup.
“The amount of hair damage done in the ’80s was magnificent,” Kim said as Lola’s hair sizzled in the heated crimper. “Brings me back.”
Kim applied eye shadow to her daughter’s face, choosing bright blue contrasted with neon orange, and used electric blue mascara to complete the look.
“I look like a clown!” Lola exclaimed, glimpsing her face in the mirror.
The rest of the Holderness family participated too — Lola’s dad, Penn, showed her some classic ’80s dance moves. Little brother Penn Charles made no attempt to hide his laughter at the way his older sister looked.
