Woman Accidentally Texts Actress Sarah Michelle Gellar Instead of Sister About Engagement
Sending a text message to the wrong number sometimes ends up with unexpectedly heartwarming results. Especially when you accidentally text a major celebrity, who responds with kindness.
Georgia woman Charlyn Willis was over the moon with excitement when she and her boyfriend Dennis got engaged. Willis couldn’t wait to share the big news with her family, starting with her sister.
Willis snapped a photo of herself and her glittering diamond ring. She texted the photo to her sister — or so she thought.
Willis accidentally texted actress Sarah Michelle Gellar, famously known for her role as “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.”
But Gellar loved the mistake, posting the photo of Willis on social media and offering her congratulations.
“This is #CharlynWillis,” Gellar wrote on Facebook. “She got engaged yesterday, and meant to text her sister, but in all the excitement, got me instead.”
“Her sister didn’t respond, but I did,” Gellar continued. “So please help me say congrats, to Charlyn. (And her fiancé whose name I don’t know) #congratulations.”
Willis and her fiancé were flooded with warm wishes and congratulations from people around the world.
An excited Willis promised to add Gellar and her family to the wedding guest list once a date was set.
“Thank you so much for this,” Willis told Gellar online. “You’ve truly made my engagement experience even more of a life changer!”

This isn’t the first time an accidental text has changed a life. During Thanksgiving of 2016, a grandma from Arizona sent a text to a young man she thought was her grandson, inviting him over for dinner.
Even though Grandma texted the wrong person, she invited him over anyway. Jamal Hinton, 17 at the time, took Grandma up on the offer and shared a Thanksgiving meal with her family.
The accidental text blossomed into a sweet grandma-grandchild relationship. Hinton went back to Grandma’s house for Thanksgiving in 2017, too.
