Woman Facing Felony Charges for What She Did at Chick-Fil-A

Share

One of the popular Chick-fil-A marketing slogans “Smart Peeple Eat Chikin,” apparently doesn’t apply to a woman from Georgia who tried to trick employees into giving her a discounted meal.

The woman hoped to snag some cheaper food by impersonating a law enforcement official, but instead, she snagged herself a couple of felony charges.

Tara Marie Solem, of Cobb County, Georgia, was indicted on Feb. 15 on two felony charges of impersonating an officer. The incident happened in July 2017, at a Chick-fil-A restaurant in Marietta, Georgia.

Chick-fil-A is one of the many American restaurants that will offer discounts to law enforcement or military personnel as a way to thank them for their service.

Typically, each restaurant location sets their own guidelines regarding the discount policy, rules that Solem tried to circumvent.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Solem first attempted to deceive a drive-through employee by stating that she was a federal agent. The employee didn’t believe Solem, so the angry woman went into the store and demanded to speak with a manager.

Solem whipped out her silver badge in an attempt to convince two store managers that she was, indeed, a federal agent.

She was argumentative and foul-mouthed, according to the arrest warrant, within earshot of other customers including children.

When the managers explained the discount only applied to uniformed law enforcement officers, Solem accused the employees of endangering her life.

“She stated that she was undercover and that for them asking her to be in uniform would blow her cover and possibly [sic] get her killed,” the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

Refusing to admit defeat, Solem called the Chick-fil-A corporate office and attempted to file a formal complaint, identifying herself as “Agent Solem.” She told the customer service representative she was actually an agent with the Georgia Bureau of Investigations.

As Solem’s confrontation escalated, Chick-fil-A employees called the police. Cobb County officers arrested Solem and charged her with disorderly conduct and impersonating an officer on July 5.

According to the arrest warrant, the Georgia Bureau of Investigations confirmed there was no “Agent Solem” in any of their current or former records. A magistrate court judge banned Solem from returning to the Macland Crossing Chick-fil-A in the future.

If only Solem had thought this through, she could have walked inside wearing a cow costume for an udderly delicious free meal on July 11, just days after her failed free food attempt.

“Dress Like Me — Git Chikin Free,” is one legitimate way to get free food from the restaurant chain which offers customer appreciation days throughout the year.

The allure of a spicy chicken sandwich makes people do crazy things, I suppose. We salute the employees who refused to give in to Solem’s deceit, saving the discounts for the men and women who truly deserve it.
