Woman Walks Up to Cop Car Parked on Street, Learns He Stayed Behind Just To Protect Her

An Indiana woman has praised a Fort Wayne police officer for going above and beyond to make sure she was safe in a parking lot.

Facebook user Terri Mae shared on social media the story of how she met Fort Wayne Police Officer Hunter.

Her story started with a situation many of us have encountered — walking across a dark parking lot, alone, and hoping to make it into the car quickly and safely.

The feeling of uneasiness settles in, as we try to be completely aware of our surroundings during a vulnerable few moments.

Part of Terri’s job was locking up and setting the alarm, and she was the last person out of the building on Sept. 10.

She realized she’d be walking out to her car alone, noting that she typically had another person with her, which made the late-night dash to the car a little safer.

But on this particular night, Terri was solo. However, when she walked out toward her vehicle, she was pleasantly surprised and comforted to see a patrol car sitting in the parking lot.

“I get to the middle of the sidewalk and I look over and see a patrol car sitting out watching over the parking lot!” Terri wrote on Facebook.

Terri approached the officer waiting in the car to thank him, and was left greatly encouraged by his response.

“I walked over to thank him and he told me that he specifically came back because he saw that there was only one car left in the parking lot and he wanted to make sure the driver (me) got to the car safely!”

The encounter left Terri grinning and feeling very proud of the Fort Wayne Police Department’s commitment to serve and protect the community.

“After talking I learned that, through many different avenues, he is a mentor to the youth in our area!” Terri wrote. “How lucky are we to have such an amazing man keeping us safe!”

“Thank you Officer Hunter! You blessed my night tonight!” she said, referring to him as one of the department’s “finest.”

In a world where people love to criticize one another, Terri’s thoughtful praise has been a breath of encouragement that so many officers need to hear.
