Zoo Confirms April the Giraffe May Give Birth Before the End of March
Attention April the giraffe fans: clear your schedules, because April is primed to deliver her fifth calf — weeks earlier than anticipated.
Animal Adventure Park announced that April the giraffe’s fifth pregnancy is advancing ahead of schedule.
In July 2018, the zoo confirmed that April is pregnant with baby number 5.
The father of this calf is Oliver, the same giraffe that fathered Tajiri, born in 2017.
Zoo staff predicted that April’s baby would arrive sometime in late March, but the pregnant mother’s recent changes have led them to believe the calf might arrive sooner than expected.
“Behavioral and physical changes are suggesting we are very much moving towards having a calf,” Animal Adventure Park announced on Facebook. “Perhaps sooner than end of March, as originally predicted based on keeper observations.”
The zoo’s announcement sounds familiar to the story of April’s last pregnancy, when zookeepers also thought Tajiri would be born sooner than anticipated.
For 65 long days, viewers stayed glued to a live stream of April at home, sleeping, eating hay and not giving birth.
April’s fame continued to rise with each passing day that she did not give birth, until finally, at long last, Tajiri was born.
Ironically, park officials are cautiously optimistic that April will deliver early this time around.
“But hey — we’ve been wrong before,” staff added.
In true April the giraffe fashion, viewers will have plenty of opportunities to celebrate the arrival of the new calf.
The zoo will again be offering live stream video of April, available on YouTube for everyone’s viewing pleasure.

On Feb. 23, the zoo announced a contest that will give the winner a free weekend of fun at Animal Adventure Park.
The winner will be selected after the calf’s birth from the names of those who correctly predicted the new baby’s gender.
April supporters can even order a #teampink or #teamblue giraffe T-shirt if you really want to show off your dedication.
“While we do not anticipate a calf this evening, tomorrow is another day,” park staff wrote.
“Here we go again!”
