“Laura, Barbara, Jenna, and I are sad, but our souls are settled because we know hers was,” the statement said.

“Barbara Bush was a fabulous First Lady and a woman unlike any other who brought levity, love, and literacy to millions. To us, she was so much more. Mom kept us on our toes and kept us laughing until the end. I’m a lucky man that Barbara Bush was my mother. Our family will miss her dearly, and we thank you all for your prayers and good wishes.”

This news comes just days after she declined further medical treatment for her long battle with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and congestive heart failure.

She had been in and out of the hospital several times in the past year alone, and knew her time on earth was coming to an end.

The first lady decided to go gracefully in her own home and not within the confines and restraints that come with taking your last breath inside a hospital’s walls.

The office of former President George H.W. Bush released a statement confirming the news of her recent hospitalizations, and this afternoon, of her passing.

“A former First Lady of the United States of America and relentless proponent of family literacy, Barbara Pierce Bush passed away Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at the age of 92,” today’s statement read.

Earlier statements went on to shed a little light on what was going on with the first lady behind closed doors.

“It will not surprise those who know her that Barbara Bush has been a rock in the face of her failing health, worrying not for herself — thanks to her abiding faith — but for others.’”

Barbara Bush also expressed that she was appreciative of the many kind messages and prayers she received.

Fans and admirers of the Bush family are naturally heartbroken by the tragic news. However, you can rest easy knowing that she was surrounded by loving family at the time of her passing.
