Doctor Grabs Crying Baby, Cuddles Infant for Over An Hour While Mother in ER

Share

A trip to the emergency room is always stressful, but having a young child or an infant with you can make things even more difficult.

One New Zealand mom made her way to the emergency room with no choice but to bring her tired baby along with her.

While she underwent tests for about an hour, hospital staff attempted to calm the baby, but none were successful.

That’s when Dr. Muir Wallace stepped in to help. And not only was Wallace a doctor working in the ER that day, but he was running the entire department at the time.

Waikato Hospital took to Facebook the following morning with a heartwarming post and an image of the kind doctor comforting the baby.

“The older of the two featured in this picture is Muir — one of our ED consultants,” a colleague named Mike wrote. “The little guy was here with his mum and badly needed a snooze. Sadly his mum was unwell and needed some tests. I believe several people tried but Muir was the only one able to settle him.”

Mike praised Wallace for his incredible multitasking abilities, and many more chimed in to share their past experiences with the doctor. The post quickly went viral, racking up over 4,000 likes in a matter of days.

“So for about an hour the other day our consultant in charge (of the entire ED) was most definitely multi-tasking,” Mike wrote.

“This Dr is amazing,” one commenter added. “He looked after my son last night in kids place as he had a burnt face and needed anisthetic to make sure his eye was ok.”

“You can tell he’s an awesome man from that one act!” another said.

“Thank you Muir for caring for 2 people that day above and beyond what you would have to do.”

Mike ended the post with a reminder that random acts of kindness happen all around us — we only need to look around to see them.

“Just an example of the small kindnesses that happen every day that often go unnoticed.” This doctor is truly an inspiration!
