Miracle Dog Survives Euthanasia, Gets Second Chance at Life After Being Discarded
When a young blue heeler mix was found mostly blind and roaming the streets, animal rescue organization Cuz i Matter raced to the rescue.
The 2-year-old dog’s story had been making his way across social media until it reached Cuz i Matter, and it was clear that the dog was in desperate need of their help.
The pup was hesitant to allow humans near him, and the reason why turned out to be absolutely shocking.
He had been euthanized, but the procedure failed to work, and he awoke only a few hours later.
By then, he’d been discarded with the other animals, and woke up mostly blind from the botched operation.
“He was euthanized. Apparently either the dose wasn’t right or something was botched and he woke up. He had been discarded with the other animals,” foster coordinator Lorrie Anding said.
Even though he had a long road to recovery ahead, Kathryn Lippert and her family knew they could help foster the dog.
“Even getting him over here was a horrific experience for him. He didn’t want to be touched. He hated the collar and his leash. I couldn’t feed him by hand. He wasn’t taking treats,” Lippert said.
But after a few days of patience, the dog was starting to warm up to his foster family.
“His tail is wagging when he hears his name now, and it’s just really wonderful to see that,” Lippert explained.
While waiting to find his forever home, the pup will be starting heartworm treatment. In the meantime, his foster mom has also given him the perfect name: Valor.
“He’s a really strong dog and that’s why I chose the name Valor,” Lippert said.
“He really needs a home that’s positive, and I think that if they have other dogs that he can get along with and they are patient with him… I think he’s going to be a great family dog. He wants to be a part of a family.”
