Shelter Pit Bull Grabs His Sleeve & Shreds It, He Says 'Now I Want Him Even More'

Share

When Pablo the Pit Bull first met Manny, he ripped and shredded his coat. The dog was absolutely terrified of men, making him extremely cautious and vicious whenever a man came near him.

Rescuers immediately became quiet after Pablo bit Manny’s coat, believing that the dog had scared off the only hope for a forever home he’d ever get.

“I reach and he bites my coat and rips and shreds the one arm,” Manny explained. “And everybody just got quiet. They were like, ‘They’re never gonna take this dog now.'”

But Manny wasn’t about to give up on Pablo so easily. In fact, the dogs actions only made Manny more interested.

“And I go, ‘I want him even more now.’ Like ‘I want him now. I want him bad.'”

Manny knew that Pablo would face difficulty getting adopted without his help. So instead of leaving the dog to find another family, Manny adopted him into his.

“‘Cause I know that this guy, no one else is gonna take him,” Manny said. “I said ‘This is gonna be my dog. I love him to death already. I’m not afraid of a little bit of a challenge.’ I couldn’t wait to get him.”

So Manny took Pablo home with his family. The dog immediately warmed up to his new mom, but still didn’t feel safe around Manny.

Although they didn’t know much about Pablo’s past, his new family knew he’d been returned to the New York Bully Crew animal rescue organization multiple times.

After a trip to the vet, pieces of his past began to surface. Pablo had been abused at a young age, as revealed by an X-ray at the vet.

“Who kicked him?” the vet asked. “Somebody hurt him when he was really, really young.”

While they had no idea what Pablo had been through, it was clear he had a reason to be afraid in the past.

“It was difficult having a dog that was giving her all the affection and love, and I wanted to touch him, I couldn’t touch him. I couldn’t love him. That was very difficult.”

But his new family was determined to show Pablo that he didn’t need to be afraid. Manny would play with the family’s dog Charli to show Pablo how gentle and loving he was.

And while nothing happened overnight, Pablo saw the affection Charli was getting, and slowly began to warm up to Manny.

After a few months, Pablo has fallen in love with his dad, and is no longer afraid of him.

The pair go on walks with Charli, Pablo gets belly rubs, and both remind one another to stop and enjoy the moment every once in a while.

“He’s still a work in progress but I know this. I would never give him back or think about it,” Manny said. “He’s definitely worth all the trouble.”
