Christina of HGTV's 'Flip or Flop' Announces Her New Spin-off Series

Share

Not only has HGTV seemed to have reignited Americans’ love of home remodeling, it has also launched quite a few television careers. From Chip and Joanna Gaines’ smash hit “Fixer Upper” to Drew and Jonathan Scott of “Brother Vs. Brother,” quite a few personalities on the cable network have gone on to become household names.

Among the best-known HGTV hosts are Tarek and Christina El Moussa, stars of “Flip or Flop.” Yet the future of this top-rated program on the network once seemed desperately in doubt.

In 2016, the couple separated, and they finalized their divorce in 2017, all the while continuing to produce the show together.

While that might seem amazing to some, Christina told People magazine that it made sense given their marital difficulties.

“We’re a couple that got divorced on TV, and we could have just brushed right over it, but I think it makes sense for everyone to see what it’s like to work with your ex-spouse,” she said. “It’s important.”

Christina also doesn’t seem bitter that Tarek’s personal life has diverged from her own. “To watch Tarek move on and be in the dating scene, I think is great,” she told ET Online.

“We’ve both moved on. We’ve been separated for two years, and I’m happy that he’s out there dating, and I hope he finds someone nice and that’s great with my kids, too.”

Will you watch Christina's new show?

That isn’t the only way that Christina’s life has diverged from that of Tarek. HGTV has announced that she’ll be getting her own show titled “Christina on the Coast.”

The show will shed the budgetary constraints of “Flip or Flop” and instead focus on the star’s signature style.

“Christina’s design style is very popular, so it’s a natural progression for us to expand her visibility with a new series,” HGTV president Allison Page said in a statement.

It will also deal with her personal life as she balances parenthood with her professional goals. HGTV will also likely provide a glimpse into her life with new boyfriend Anthony Anstead, himself a U.K. TV host.

“Ant (which is Anstead’s nickname) is amazing,” Christina said. “He is so grounded, and he is so sweet.”

Though she’s had a difficult few years, Christina seems at peace with where she is now. “Right now, I’m so super happy.

“I’m so blessed, and I’m so so lucky to have everything that I have, but I’m always looking ahead. I’m always looking to do something bigger and better, and I never want to be complacent.”
