Cruel Teens Break Dog's Leg and Set It on Fire, But Dog Miraculously Survives It All

Share

Most of us still find ourselves shocked by cruelty to animals. There’s something particularly despicable about intentionally injuring a creature for sport.

A 2015 case out of Margate, Kent, England, simply drives that point home. According to the Daily Mail, a group of four bored teenagers turned the tiny life of a little Chihuahua cross named Chunky into a living hell for their own enjoyment.

That’s not hyperbole, either. The four youths stole the dog from his home.

Then they took him back to one of the teenager’s homes. At that point, they began to torture Chunky in increasingly diabolical ways.

They fed him drugs, laughing at his mentally altered state. Then they set fire to him, scorching his face and limbs.

After that, they took turns beating the dog repeatedly, and the assault didn’t just leave bruises. The teenagers’ blows broke Chunky’s leg and neck.

“Hellish” only begins to describe the horrors they visited on that helpless animal, an animal that had done absolutely nothing to them. At some point, they decided that Chunky had succumbed to their abuse and died.

It was a mistake. Chunky was still alive, but that misunderstanding ended up saving him.

The teens left him by a trash dump, and he was eventually found and placed into the care of the RSPCA. Caroline Doe, RSPCA Inspector, found herself shaken by the state of Chunky.

ITV reported that she said, “This was the most disturbing case I have ever dealt with — by an absolute mile. The whole thing sends shivers down my spine.

“The defendants may have been young and confessed to being under the influence of drugs but the cruelty they inflicted on this poor dog was extreme, barbaric, and inexcusable. I will never forget how terrified and depressed he was when I first saw him.”

Doe added that veterinarians couldn’t safely control all of Chunky’s pain, and the dog suffered terribly for almost a whole week. Thankfully, authorities soon reunited him with his family.

Additionally, they caught the four youths, and all of them pleaded guilty. They had to pay fines and were kept from owning animals for five years.

We Love Animals reported that Chunky still has some lingering skittishness from the abuse he suffered. However, he recovered from his injuries and also still loves people — an inspirational end if ever there was one.
