Good Samaritan Saves Police Officer's Life When Suspect Points Gun at Cop's Head

You may think your job is hard, and you might very well be right. But I doubt you experience the same kind of on-duty duress as police officers.

Those in law enforcement have a special kind of stress, knowing that their lives could hang in the balance at any moment.

Indeed, one cop from Batavia, New York, saw his life flash before his eyes during a routine traffic stop.

According to The Daily News, Officer Darryle Streeter was driving through the city when he noticed a car motoring down the street with an illegal tire. Normally that would result in a simple infraction.

However, Streeter had also seen the vehicle’s passenger. His name was Brandon Fogg, and authorities had wanted to speak with him that very morning.

Fogg had allegedly gone to an individual’s residence and begun banging on the door. The person had filed a trespassing complaint with police.

Officers had arrived on the scene, but by then Fogg had already left. So when Streeter recognized Fogg, he decided to have a talk with the man.

“I then went around to the passenger side of the vehicle to speak to him,” Streeter told KABB. Fogg, though, was having none of it.

He allegedly tried to flee the vehicle. That was when Streeter began to grapple with him.

“At that point in time, I took him physically down to the ground and an altercation occurred between the two of us,” Streeter said. The two soon ended up wrestling on the pavement.

Such a situation might’ve seemed stressful enough as-is. But Fogg’s hand darted into his pocket — and came out with a pistol.

As officer and assailant fought, Fogg tried to turn the gun on Streeter. “I see a handgun pulled out from under his belly and being pointed basically at my head,” the officer remembered, the image burned into his mind.

Then he saw something else. A person who he didn’t know had come to his rescue.

“I see a foot come down on his wrist,” Streeter said. “I see a hand reach down and remove the handgun from there.”

An employee of O-AT-KA Milk Products, a nearby business, had run up and disarmed Fogg. His name was Ralph Bush, and he was a veteran.

While getting off of work, he “turned left to leave and looked in my review rear. At the time I noticed a pistol came into play,” Bush said. “I wasn’t about to let him get shot.”

Thankfully, the pistol turned out to be a BB gun — but no one except Fogg knew that, and Bush’s heroic act means no less because of it.

A camaraderie quickly blossomed between Bush and Streeter. “We’ll be friends for the rest of our lives now,” Streeter said, and the two have tentative fishing plans.
