Mom of Newborn Shares Terrifying Moment She Began Bleeding Out: 'I Did Think I Was Going To Die'
I was present in the delivery room for the birth of each of my three children. And though my wife had relatively uncomplicated deliveries, it still scared my socks off each time.
There’s simply something about how the medical staff becomes immediately intense right before a birth. Also, your beloved’s pain and strain appear to increase almost exponentially.
You realize that this whole process isn’t in your control. In fact, it isn’t in anyone’s control except God’s.
All that you, your wife, and the medical professionals can do is try to manage the situation. Sometimes, though, that doesn’t work particularly well.
According to People magazine, Dani Hopkins of Spokane, Washington, was one of those women who had a birth get away from her. On Sept. 22, 2018, she delivered her firstborn, a healthy little girl named Taylor.
However, 15 minutes after the birth, an emergency occurred. Hopkins began to bleed heavily.
“The doctor was like, ‘She’s bleeding out!’” Hopkins told People magazine. “All of a sudden it went from just being me, the doctor, the nurse, my husband and the baby, to being eight to 10 nurses and another doctor.
“They were all surrounding me.” The reason for Hopkins hemorrhaging was little Taylor herself.
Her delivery had lacerated Hopkins’ birth canal. The bleeding was severe — and it didn’t stop quickly.
For two hours, the physicians labored over the new mother, trying to save her life. For a while, she didn’t think they’d succeed.
“I did think that I was going to die,” she recalled. “I just remember laying there thinking, ‘This is how I’m gonna go?’
“I was sad because I didn’t want (my husband) to be a single father. I was sad that I wouldn’t get to see my baby grow up.
“I felt like I was above myself watching it happen.” Fortunately, that wasn’t what happened.
Doctors eventually stopped the hemorrhaging. However, it took 100 stitches to get the job done.
Recovery has been slow for Hopkins. “I have a hard time standing,” she said.
“If I stand for too long I’m in a lot of pain. I had a check-up with my doctor, but I was still too swollen for them to see anything.”
However, she said that her daughter’s little life makes it all worth it. “I’ve never been happier,” she said.
“Life is just so much better with her in it. She is the sweetest, happiest little baby. She smiles all day long.”
