Mother's Hilarious Video of Baby Trying To Eat Her Burrito Is Going Viral
When my wife and I decided that it was time for our firstborn to graduate to solid foods, we chose to make the transition into a mini celebration. We started with a special bowl and spoon for the little guy.
Then we filled it with rice cereal, plonked the baby into his high chair and fastened a brand-new bib around his chubby neck. He seemed nonplussed as the cereal-loaded spoon hovered before his lips, but he took a taste all the same.
That single taste, though, was all he needed to form a rather definite opinion. A look of disgusted horror crossed his tiny face, his tongue thrust spasmodically outward, and rice cereal flew from his mouth and onto his clothes.
We have photos of the whole unfortunate experience. But a mom’s video of her 18-week-old girl’s definite interest in solid food is tickling funny bones all across the internet.
Raina Kessel has a little girl named Riva. Little Riva is what you’d call the traditional Gerber baby.
Chubby cheeks. Dark, liquid eyes. A comically curious expression perpetually on her face. And an almost entire bald pate.
You get the idea: The kid is seriously cute. And she’s even cuter than that in a video that is taking social media by storm.
Kessel uploaded footage of her eating a burrito while holding Riva on Dec. 13. The Facebook post read, “Her doctor said that I could start thinking about introducing her to solid foods if she started showing any interest. Might this qualify?”
The video opens with a nonchalant Kessel clutching a half-eaten burrito in her right hand while cradling the little baby with her left. The wide-eyed baby watches with seeming mild interest as her mom lifts her lunch.
But as soon as Kessel begins to take a bite, her child’s attitude changes.
Little Riva goes from mild-mannered infant to famished, ravening destroyer. Her brow furrows, her eyes narrow, her mouth pops open and she positively lunges for the burrito.
Only her mother’s tight grip keeps her from sinking her toothless gums into the meal. This happens every time Kessel goes to get a mouthful.
The gently inquisitive Riva pops her mouth open and shakes her head. It’s a ferocious display — and utterly hilarious.
In a separate post, Kessel wrote, “Here is a quick video of my 18-week-old … baby trying desperately to eat my burrito. Though she has never yet tasted actual food, she certainly seems to like Mexican.”
Riva’s interest in solid foods is certainly precocious. The Mayo Clinic notes that most children don’t start eating such foods until four to six months of age.
This little girl may just be advanced for her age. Reddit users even started calling her “Kirbaby” after the video game character who inhales anything in his path and remixed the video to include Kirby sound effects every time Riva opens her mouth.
