Trisha Yearwood Shares Why Husband Garth Brooks Eats Tortellini for Breakfast
Celebrities get a lot of breaks in life. Sometimes it can seem unfair that they enjoy additional perks beyond, you know, the typical fame, professional success and monetary accumulation.
Others hardly blink when they go through romantic partners like Kleenex or behave poorly in public.
But people generally notice a celebrity’s strange eating habits. Wolf down odd food in a normal way or normal food in an odd way or odd food in an odd way, and you can expect lots of lambasting.
For instance, People magazine reported that actor Scott Foley (“Felicity,” “The Unit”) likes peanut butter on his scrambled eggs. Even weirder is the fact that his whole family does, too.
“It’s a family thing,” he said. “It’s a protein thing.”
Meanwhile, Jennifer Lawrence (“The Hunger Games,” “American Hustle”) likes pizza and spaghetti — together. She mashes marinara and noodles between two slices of New York style pizza.
“It’s called a chili pizza sandwich,” she explained. “You have a piece of pizza, you put chili in it with noodles, like southern chili with noodles, and then another piece of pizza, and then you eat it like a sandwich.”
It’s not just our current stars either. Ripley’s Believe It or Not highlighted the odd eating habits of Marilyn Monroe (a breakfast of raw eggs whipped with milk), Steve Jobs (such amazing amounts of apples and carrots that he turned orange), and Charles Darwin (who noshed on armadillo and iguana).
Then there’s country music legend Garth Brooks. He’s managed to take a tradition from his wife, Trisha Yearwood, and put his own strange spin on it.
According to People magazine, Yearwood said that her parents enjoyed a special holiday dish. “One of the traditions that started in my own family was on Christmas morning, my mom and dad would make a breakfast casserole.
“You pour in the eggs, milk and half-and-half, cook the sausage and put it all in over bread, then let it sit in the refrigerator overnight. In the morning, when you’re opening presents, breakfast is cooking.”
Yearwood, an amazing musician in her own right, has also published cookbooks. But as she was writing them, Brooks decided that she needed to include more of his favorite food: tortellini.
“He loves it,” she said. “It makes it into so many things he makes.”
One of those things is Brooks’ breakfast bowl, a concoction not unlike the Christmas-morning breakfast from Yearwood’s parents. She said, “It’s just eggs, cheese, bacon, sausage, tortellini, and hash browns!”
An obsession with tortellini might seem the epitome of odd. But Yearwood claims that there’s a strange sense to her husband’s preoccupation.
“I stopped telling him he’s crazy because everything he’s suggested that I add tortellini to has been great,” she said. “There’s a recipe in my second book called Country Quiche, which is basically a really hearty breakfast quiche.
“Garth said I should put tortellini in it, and I said, ‘You’re nuts.’ I made one with and one without, and the one with tortellini was better.”
