Heartwarming Moment Mom Reunites with 6-Year-Old Son with Autism Hours After He Went Missing
Even the most careful mom knows and dreads the heartstopping feeling of missing a child, whether for just a few seconds or, in this case, a few hours.
Landon Ross Lindsay, 6, was reported missing on Monday when his mother discovered that he had wandered out of the family’s home. Immediately, community members and law enforcement banded together to help her search for the little boy.
Landon’s family was especially worried because the 6-year-old has autism and doesn’t usually respond to strangers.
“According to his parents, Landon is autistic and will NOT respond or interact,” Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office wrote in an Instagram post asking the public to keep their eyes open for any sight of Landon. In case anyone found him, they wanted searchers to know what to expect.
However, Landon’s parents also reported that their son has a lot of energy.
“He is a very energetic little boy who likes to flap his arms and make noises,” the police added in their post.
WXII-TV was onsite along with fire trucks and law enforcement, as volunteers scoured the neighborhood for hours, hunting for any sign of the missing child.
That’s when the boy’s mother suddenly screamed.
“We caught the moment during our Facebook Live report,” news anchor DaVonté McKenith wrote on Facebook.
A video captured by the news crew shows the woman bolting down a hill toward a neighboring house as the startled search team looks on. Landon can be seen slowly walking outside as his mother and another woman, presumably another rescuer, race toward him.
Then Landon’s mom scoops her son up into her arms for a crushing hug. The emotional reunion touched hearts as the family’s community joined them in celebrating the boy’s safe return.
“There is no love like a mother’s love,” McKenith said of the touching moment.
“Landon has been located, safe and sound, and has been reunited with his family,” the sheriff’s department wrote in an update, thanking the community for their speedy assistance in finding the little boy before he met any serious harm.
The 6-year-old had wandered into the basement of a neighboring house, where he was trapped for several hours.
The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office told The Western Journal, “We are thankful that Landon was found quickly, and we rejoice along with his parents. We are grateful to be in a community that deploys so many resources and works together – from the local fire department using their drone to the neighborhood children riding their bikes – everyone pitched in and worked together to look for Landon.”
The office wrote on Facebook, “We wish every case we worked came with such a joyful conclusion.”
