8-Year-Old Heartbroken When No One Shows at Birthday Party, Then Cops Pour In One by One

Share

When was the very first birthday party ever thrown? Nobody can really say for sure.

The Bible itself references “Pharaoh’s birthday” in the Book of Genesis. And according to the Huffington Post, ancient Greeks added brightly lit candles to cakes for a beautiful shimmering effect.

But historical underpinnings aside, birthday parties are just plain fun. They appeal to the kid in all of us, and they can make anyone feel appreciated and loved.

Children’s birthday parties, in particular, offer the opportunity for great new memories and cute, candid moments. So it’s especially disheartening when a youngster’s celebration doesn’t go according to plan.

This recently happened to 8-year-old Larriah Binns of Sidney, Maine. Her mother, Angelique Binns, had invited Larriah’s classmates over for a Saturday birthday bash.

Unfortunately, none of the kids were able to make it. As you might imagine, this sort of thing could leave any guest of honor feeling more than a little crestfallen.

A disappointed Angelique wanted to make her sweet girl feel special, so she sent a Facebook message to the Augusta Maine Police Department. According to Staff Sergeant Christian Behr, the concerned mom asked if the officers would be willing to sign a birthday card for Larriah.

Behr told News Center Maine that Angelique wanted to show her daughter that people truly do care. So his fellow officers decided to help convey this crucial message in the most memorable way possible.

In other words, they showed up at Larriah’s house in full force to make sure her day was fantastic.

“I don’t think she really knew that we were all coming in such numbers,” Behr explained to News Center Maine.

Angelique seconded Behr’s amused sentiments. “She was definitely surprised,” the overjoyed mom confirmed.

Angelique said that she simply told her daughter there were “a few people coming over.” So when one patrol car after another began appearing, the mood became celebratory almost immediately.

“When the cars started pulling up,” Angelique recalled, “you could see the excitement in her eyes. She started jumping up and down.”

Next thing Larriah knew, she was wearing a sparkly birthday tiara. Then she received that great card, signed by the whole Augusta Maine Police Department.

But the party was just getting started. It included a colorful cake, shiny balloons, lots of laughter and gift cards to Larriah’s favorite store.

Visit the police department’s Facebook page to see even more festive photos featuring Larriah’s ear-to-ear grin. There’s a reason these kind-hearted cops are known as “Maine’s finest.”
