Man Eats Two of World's Hottest Peppers, Uses Internet Remedies To Cool Off Burning Mouth

Share

Do you enjoy spicy food? Maybe a little extra hot sauce in your chili, or a smidge of wasabi on your sushi?

You’re certainly not alone. Spicy food aficionados are everywhere, and many wear their affinity like a badge of honor.

Peppers are a particularly handy way to help any meal pack more of a punch. In fact, there’s a science behind that extra bite.

According to PepperHead, it’s called the Scoville Heat Unit. This measure helps quantify a pepper’s kick, based upon its concentration of capsaicinoids.

Capsaicin is the chemical that generates that characteristically fiery sensation. You can even find this powerful substance in various pharmaceutical products used to quell pain flare-ups from arthritis and injury.

But when enough capsaicin actually hits your tongue, it can go off like a virtual powder keg. Anyone who has tried the world’s hottest peppers understands the oral ordeal that can result.

PepperHead says that currently, the two most scorching peppers on the planet are the Carolina reaper and the Trinidad Moruga scorpion.

Are you surprised that none of the internet remedies worked?

True to their sinister names, both of these viper veggies are several hundred times hotter than your average jalapeño. And for unfathomable reasons, an adventurous husband named Dave recently decided to eat them both at once.

Having tried a Trinidad scorpion from his wife’s garden the previous year, Dave felt more prepared this time. He’d researched various cool-down techniques he’d discovered across the internet, you see.

So with his wife snickering in the background and filming away, Dave ventured into the garden once again. He picked his peppers, set out those alleged internet remedies and chowed down without hesitation.

Dave first bit into the reaper, then the scorpion. Then, somehow, he managed to continue speaking for several seconds before the coughing and eye-watering set in.

Dave’s wife addressed her struggling husband. She conversationally asked, “So which remedy do you want to try first?”

Believe it or not, Dave initially attempted rubbing sandpaper across his tongue. Predictably, this was practically useless.

Dave next tried filling his mouth with several spoonfuls of sugar. “I can’t even taste the sugar,” he winced.

There were other attempted antidotes the internet had suggested, as well. They included cherry tomatoes, whiskey, tequila, yogurt, and — the most popular online recommendation of all — milk.

The resulting Rumble video is still receiving rave reviews and shares. Dave appears to be in absolute agony, yet he soldiers on regardless.

And what was his ultimate conclusion? The milk provided a millisecond of minimal relief — though spraying a garden house directly into his burning mouth had roughly the same effect.

“Why do you do this to yourself?” asked Dave’s amazed wife, as social media laughed right along. “I remember it being more fun,” he sheepishly admitted.
