Missing Dog Found Desperately Clinging to Pipe After Falling into Pit at Water Treatment Plant

People and their pets share an unbreakable bond. But when something happens to the human member of that dedicated duo, pets are sometimes left to fend for themselves temporarily.

This can lead to some troubling predicaments. As most animal lovers know, unattended furry friends often find their way into all sorts of surprising situations.

Unfortunately, some of those situations can be downright dangerous. Occasionally, they even have the potential to be deadly.

An 11-year-old puggle named Rosco can tell you all about this.

Recently, Rosco was left at his home in Bayonne, New Jersey, when his family encountered an unexpected situation. His adult male owner had taken a nasty fall and was being moved to a medical rehab facility for supervised recovery.

The owner’s sons, Drew and Jeff Adelung, headed over to their dad’s home once things got all settled. They intended to pick up Rosco, the four-legged companion their father loved so dearly.

But when the pair reached the residence, the pooch was nowhere to be found. It didn’t take long for Drew and Jeff to realize that Rosco had managed to run away somehow.

So these two gentlemen did what any concerned offspring might do. They began posting fliers all over town and combing the area for any sign of the elderly pup.

The good news is, they eventually found Rosco. The bad news is, he’d gotten himself into quite a worrisome scrape.

Rosco had tumbled into an eight-foot basin at the nearby SUEZ water treatment facility. People magazine reported that the pit itself is located in an unused section of the plant.

One day, some employees heard the sound of frantic barking. They couldn’t pinpoint the exact location, so they alerted the Bayonne Fire Department.

When responders arrived on the scene, they eventually tracked the ruckus to the isolated basin. And when they looked inside, they were greeted by a heartbreaking sight.

A distraught little Rosco was using every ounce of his strength to remain wedged between the wall and a pipe. Otherwise, he would have slipped into the water and drowned.

Nobody knew how long Rosco had been desperately clinging to life. But firefighters immediately climbed down into the basin, so they could pull the scrappy pup to safety.

Rosco was subsequently examined by a veterinarian. Thankfully, he was found to be shaken up but otherwise okay.

Now he’s safe and warm once again, in the arms of his favorite human.

“What an experience,” a relieved Drew Adelung told Long Island News 12. He also expressed deep appreciation for the rescuers who finally helped reunite Rosco with his grateful father.
