Young Girls in Checkout Line Starstruck Over Costco Cashier

Share

Conventional wisdom holds that somewhere, everybody has a double. Maybe you’ll never meet that person — maybe you’re living out your lives on opposite sides of the world, utterly oblivious to your striking resemblance.

Maybe your double exists in some sort of alternate universe.

Perhaps, for instance, you look just like the self-described “greatest demigod in all the Pacific Islands.”

Who cares if the demigod in question has actually been re-imagined as an animated Disney character from the popular 2016 movie “Moana”?

You could definitely do a whole lot worse.

So when a couple captivated little girls insist that maybe, just maybe, you’re a South Pacific legend and the guardian of all mankind, you totally take it in stride. At least, that’s what one good-natured Costco checkout clerk did recently.

Let’s be honest, after all: You can’t always talk two excited pre-tweens out of their convictions.

Maybe that’s why the resulting video footage is going adorably viral.

The short smartphone snippet shows two amazed-looking girls waiting in line while the clerk rings up their purchases.

“Who is that over there?” asks a woman off-camera, presumably a parent or adult companion.

“That’s Maui!” they shout, giggling nervously as they stand so close to legendary stardom. The fun-loving employee doesn’t even miss a beat.

“Come on this side,” he says, beckoning both girls to a spot near the register without ever once breaking his barcode-scanning rhythm. “Go by Maui,” encourages the amused female voice.

The kids sneak shyly around the bagging area. Then they stand right next to their perceived movie protagonist — the one that posters everywhere proclaim to be “half god, half mortal, all awesome.”

In a spontaneous move that does, indeed, appear to be pretty darn awesome, the Costco clerk looks at his star-struck fans and says, “Ready?”

Then he counts to three, and belts out a regal cry truly worthy of a warlord.

Everyone around him giggles appreciatively — especially the two girls. It just goes to show that no matter where you are in life, or what you do, somebody is always convinced you’re an absolute hero.
