Leonardo DiCaprio to Star in Tarantino's New Charles Manson Movie
He may be gone, but he is most certainly not forgotten. The story of the late Charles Manson will continue to be told, this time on the silver screen.
A pair of Hollywood heavyweights, Academy Award winners Leonardo DiCaprio and Quentin Tarantino will be working together to tell a story that takes place in 1969 during the summer of the Manson murders.
While there is no title yet and the story is still under wraps, the project has been described by Deadline as “Pulp Fiction-esque.”
The two will partner with Margot Robbie, who will take on the role of Sharon Tate.
DiCaprio and Tarantino have worked together before, on 2012’s “Django Unchained.” The violent western won multiple honors for acting and writing.
Although it is unknown if his part will be fictional or not, DiCaprio does have a history of bringing true-life “characters” to the screen.
Over the years he has played Howard Hughes, J. Edgar Hoover, and con-man turned law-enforcement officer Frank Abagnale, Jr.
For his part, Tarantino is not one to shy away from controversial subjects. His films have looked at slavery, violence, crime, and war.
The film is currently slated to begin production this year and will be released in 2019.
That would be fifty years after the murders that jolted the country.
In the 1960’s, Manson started the Manson Family. A cult/commune whose members committed nine murders in the late summer of 1969.
Manson hoped that the murders would start a race war, from which he would emerge a victorious leader.
The only things they inspired were sympathy for the victims and outrage at him.
While Manson did not commit any murders himself, he was still tried and convicted of a number of crimes.
He was sentenced to life in prison.
He continued to be a cultural force, even behind bars, right up until his last days. Manson died in jail in 2017.
