27 Years After Falling into Coma, Mother Calls Out Name of Son She Saved in Crash

Share

A miracle has occurred after 27 long years of waiting. For 32-year-old Omar Webair, the miracle was something he always believed would come about.

In 1991, when Webair was just 4 years of age, he survived a horrible collision. It was only thanks to the protective arms of his mother, Munira Abdulla, that the young boy survived.

The bus that crashed into their vehicle could have killed Webair. But when Abdulla saw the bus coming, she used her own body to keep him safe.

Following the wreck, Webair walked away with just a bruise, but his loving mother suffered a traumatic brain injury that left her in a coma.

Though he was told it was unlikely Abdulla would ever wake up, Webair held out hope he would speak with his mother again.

“My mother was sitting with me in the back seat. When she saw the crash coming she hugged me to protect me from the blow,” Webair told The National. “I never gave up on her because I always had a feeling that one day she will wake up.”

That day came after nearly three decades of Webair visiting his mom in the hospital, always believing she would come back to him.

“To me she was like gold,” he shared with The National. “The more time passed by, the more valuable she became.”

According to WebMD, the prognosis for coma patients varies. In the case of a severe brain injury, like the one Abdulla suffered, that person is generally expected to have a disability or simply never wake up at all.

Even with the odds against them, Webair didn’t stop hoping. Then it happened — he heard his mother call his name.

“She was making strange sounds and I kept calling the doctors to examine her,” Webair explained. “They said everything was normal. Then, three days later, I woke up to the sound of someone calling my name.”

“It was her,” he continued. “She was calling my name. I was flying with joy. For years I have dreamt of this moment, and my name was the first word she said.”

Webair said he wanted to share his mother’s story so that others facing similar experiences might have the same hope and faith he held onto all these years. He also shared Abdulla has been able to communicate and even pray with him since waking.
