Age 10 Girl Suffering from Hearing Loss Cries Tears of Joy When Surprised with Service Dog
It has been said that a dog is a man’s best friend. From day-saving canines to protective pups, these furry friends are known for remaining loyal to their owners.
For those with disabilities, a good therapy or service dog can mean so much more. They are often more than just a pet — these pals are considered part of the family.
It is especially heartwarming to see the bond between a child and their beloved pet.
For one 10-year-old girl from Sumter, South Carolina, a brand new pet made all the difference in the world.
Emily Honeycutt suffers from genetic hearing loss. With each year that passes, Emily’s hearing grows progressively worse, which in turn makes her feel less secure in her environment.
The poor girl was constantly afraid to be left alone. Without good hearing, Emily dealt with anxiety whenever she didn’t have someone else to help her hear.
So her mom, Angel, decided it was time for a change. She wanted Emily to be confident whenever Angel couldn’t be around.
That boost of confidence came in a small but priceless package. Watch as Emily enters her room.
What she believes to be a bin of clothes turns out to hold a special surprise, indeed. Her reaction to what’s inside instantly touched my heart.
“I got a puppy!” she cries over and over again. There’s no question as to what receiving the 3-year-old Yorkie named Piper means to this little girl.
“Now, if someone knocks or Piper hears any strange noise, she will bark…” Angel shared in an interview. “It’s like Piper is her ears… Piper is her hero.”
What a sweet pair the two make.
