With Days Left To Live, Terminally Ill Man Reveals Final Wish: To Find Home for His Dogs

Share

Finding homes for stray pets is a good priority to have, though finding the right home can often take a substantial amount of time.

For Richard Ewers and his 11 dogs, finding the right home is vital, especially since time is running out for the 71-year-old.

A Texas native and dog-lover, Ewers is known for his big heart. He’s been sheltering abandoned and stray dogs for the past two years.

Sadly, Ewers was diagnosed with stomach cancer. He was recently placed in hospice care and the doctors told him he has just a week to live.

Thankfully there are people like Mary Oyler who have offered their time to help home Ewers’ dogs. Oyler volunteers with “Save Our Strays San Antonio.”

“We are all very sad by this, of course, and we want to make that last wish come true for him,” Oyler told KSAT-TV.

Would you consider adopting one of these dogs?

It turns out that Ewers’ last wish is to find homes for the 11 of originally 27 dogs on his property.

“They can’t be here much longer,” Oyler said. “All they’ve ever known is Mr. Richard.”

“There’s no one to give them attention and love,” she added. “There is no running water. There is no electricity. The conditions are just not ideal.”

While any family or individual who decides to open their arms to one of these pups will need a heap of patience and a lot of understanding, the bigger picture seems to involve kindness to both man and his best friends — all 11 of them.

A page has been set up to hopefully get the word out there and find these dogs homes. Anyone interested in adopting one of Ewers’ friends can visit “Helping Mr. Richard and His Dogs” on Facebook.

The dogs are not trained but they sure seem lovable. They will require commitment, but what good thing ever comes by taking the easy road?

The dogs have been spayed and neutered, but adoptive moms and dads should still take any adoptee to their local vet for a check-up.
