Heartbreaking: A 22-Year-Old Woman with Enormous Facial Tumor Bullied for Appearance

Share

We often hear people say that it’s not what’s on the outside, but what’s on the inside that counts. Still, how many of us really live out this belief?

We buy books based on the cover. We like sparkle. We judge based on appearances. Sadly, one woman from India has been made to feel shame and embarrassment, all because of a tumor she can do nothing about.

Asha Kumari is a 22-year-old young woman who lives in Dhanbad. When Asha was only a girl, a lump formed on her face.

“Initially, I thought it was a pimple,” Asha said in a Newsflare video posted on Rumble. “I had no idea that it would grow into this.”

Over the years, Asha’s “pimple” has grown to cover half of her face, making it hard for her to eat and even sleep.

Asha’s mother, Kala Devi, is a widow and works as a domestic helper. Her small income barely provides for her and her four children.

According to a crowdfunding campaign on Ketto, Asha’s rare condition is known as “adamantinoma, an odontogenic tumour which is associated with swelling, dental malocclusion, pain and paresthesia of the affected area.”

“She cannot exert much pressure while chewing food, otherwise it starts to ache and bleeds,” her mother said in the video.

But physical ailments aren’t the only thing causing Asha pain. The way she is treated by others, simply for the way she looks, has taken a toll on the young woman’s heart.

“People sneer, look at me with disgust, hence, I have never been able to make too many friends,” Asha said. “It hurts when people turn their back on you, laugh at you.”

She has even been referred to as “monkey girl” by some.

A drastic difference could be made in Asha’s life if she is able to receive the surgery she needs to have the tumors removed.

Asha will also need reconstruction surgery. The treatments are expensive and not something the young woman’s mother can afford on her own.

The total cost for the medical help Asha requires comes to just over $15,000. A fundraiser has been started online where people can donate to the cause.

A life-changing surgery could mean everything for someone like Asha. Please pray for this woman and her family as they hope and look toward a better future.
