Incredible Video Shows Protective Buck Guarding His 'Girlfriend' from Hunter
Animals are smarter than we think. We often take for granted their strong senses and keen instincts, perhaps believing they’re dumb or oblivious.
But make no mistake, animals notice things humans overlook. Dogs have the ability to quite literally see in the dark, American Kennel Club notes, an ability that can be quite useful to their human masters.
We all remember Koko the gorilla and her astounding ability to communicate with others through sign language. She certainly wasn’t dumb.
Yes, animals can be quite amazing if we only take time to look. Deer in particular seem to be able to outsmart humans time and time again.
Deer gun hunting season is now open in several states including Ohio and Indiana. If you’re a hunter, you probably know it takes more than a loaded firearm to bag that doe.
Disney’s Bambi might be fictional, but it appears a deer’s protective instincts aren’t too far-fetched, according to Deer and Deer Hunting.
White-tailed deer in particular are known to protect their young. “If a mature doe feels stressed or threatened by a buck, she will not hesitate to show her dominance by threat-walking, or even fighting with her hoofs,” DDH notes.
Bucks are known to be territorial during mating season, National Geographic says. So it’s no surprise that a buck would protect a doe mate if he feels she is endangered or threatened.
A viral video proves this point quite nicely. Travis Chamberlain posted a video on Facebook that has been viewed over 6 million times to date.
“Someone is guarding his lady friend…” the video’s caption reads. Watch as the camera follows the buck’s every move. You’ll notice something in the background has this animal’s full protection.
No matter where the camera goes, the buck goes, standing guard between potential prey and predator. This is truly amazing!
Who would have thought we could relate to a deer? Much like humans protect their loved ones, it appears this buck isn’t taking any chances when it comes to guarding his “girlfriend,” as Chamberlain says.
Seems that “love is a song that never ends,” and just like in the Disney animated classic, male and female deer alike don’t mess around when it comes to family.
