Kind Elderly Man at Store Opens Wallet for 2 Little Girls at Walmart Checkout Line

Share

Everyone could use a little kindness and understanding. Especially a mom shopping with her kids at the grocery store.

Every mom has been there. It’s the end of the day. You’re tired, and the last thing you want to do is load up your crew in the car and spend 2 hours at Walmart.

You never know how your children are going to act. Will they stay inside the cart and go along for the ride quietly?

Or will they beg for candy at checkout and treat the store like their own personal hide-and-seek playground?

And let’s not forget the mom shamers lurking around every aisle. You know, the ones just waiting to disapprove of that mom whose kids happen to be having a bad day?

One mom recently shared her story on Facebook. At a loss for options, Shelly Ann Malkowski found herself at her local Walmart in Greenville, Missouri one evening.

“I had the girls with me because I had to get groceries after daycare …” she wrote. “… it’s the only time I will have this weekend to do so.”

Shelly was nervous. “I usually avoid taking them both as it is risky …” she continued in her post. “You just never ever can predict how they will behave.”

But, thankfully, Shelly’s girls had a good day. “I was so pleased with their behavior,” she shared. “I told them they could pick out a treat in the checkout just as my mom always did with us as kids.”

Everything was going smoothly, and Shelly never expected she would find more than her girls’ treats in the checkout line.

In front of them waited an elderly gentleman in a motorized wheelchair. He’d noticed the girls’ good behavior too.

What he did next will bless your heart. “Tonight after passing this gentlemen several times in the aisles while getting groceries we ended up behind him checking out,” Shelly said.

“As we stood looking at our choices we said hello to this gentleman again,” she wrote. “He then got out his wallet and gave each girl a dollar for being so well behaved.”

Though they were strangers, the kindhearted man reached out to this mom and her sweet girls. Shelly shared how grateful she was for his gesture.

She also wanted to remind everyone that, “Someone may need your kindness just as much as you need a kind gesture from them at that moment.”

So true. Thanks for sharing, Shelly Ann. No doubt this encounter will be something you carry with you for many grocery store trips to come.
