This Might Be the Best School Snow Day Video Ever - These Administrators Can Sing!

Share

Lip sync videos are a dime a dozen. We’ve seen the lip sync battles between police departments and fire departments sweep the nation.

School administrators have jumped on the musical bandwagon too, singing songs about snow days for all their students to hear.

These aren’t lip synced, mind you. Instead they’re parodies written by these creative individuals, which makes the result all the more enjoyable.

Schools from all over have taken their own spin on singing snow day announcements. From the Backstreet Boys to Mark Ronson’s “Uptown Funk,” superintendents know how to get down with the beat.

This is no contest, of course. Still, we can’t help but have our favorites, and two officials from Swartz Creek Community Schools in Michigan can certainly carry a tune.

The snow day announcement was brought to the district by Superintendent Ben Mainka and Principal Jim Kitchen.

At first, they seem almost solemn, a bit embarrassed for their fellow educators who have gone all out to make silly snow day parodies.

But then the music fades in and these two can’t help but start singing. The result is hilarious but also brilliant! Mainka and Kitchen have some amazing sets of pipes!

“We are not gonna humiliate [ourselves] by singing a snow day song,” Principal Kitchen says. Superintendent Mainka agrees when he adds, “I can’t stand it when people sing about snow day songs.”

But they just can’t help themselves, it seems. Watch as they sing their own version of Leonard Cohen’s classic “Hallelujah.”

The sunglasses were a nice touch, adding a little rock and roll to the serious ballad. Their voices blend so nicely and their harmonies are spot on!

Principal Kitchen told reported Robin Meade of Morning Express that the idea was Superintendent Mainka’s. The two shared they were surprised at how viral their duet has gone, with over 800,000 views to date.

“It’s amazing,” Kitchen shared. “Sunday night… he sent a text and we wrote some lyrics and all of a sudden this.”

This, indeed. What a fun pair. We’ve no doubt their students and staff will be giving them high fives in the school halls for weeks to come.
