Mother of 3 Stops School Shooting Plot States Away After Reporting Racist Message to Police
On Oct. 17, Koeberle Bull of New Jersey received a horrifying message in her Facebook Messenger inbox.
The message was from 21-year-old Dylan Jarrell. He used vulgar language and made several extremely racist comments about her black children.
“Anyone who thinks racism doesn’t exist,” Koeberle wrote in her Facebook caption. “This is what I woke up to in my inbox this morning. Let’s share this and make this guy famous please.”
Koeberle is a single mom and sadly lost her husband to a heart attack in May 2012. Her three beautiful children mean everything to her.
So the shaken but brave mama did what any mother would do — she called the police and reported the message, which suggested her children be hung.
“I was in shock, I was disgusted, I was angry and hurt,” she told CNN. She even tried to message Jarrell back, but the cowardly man blocked her.
Thankfully, her gut told her not to let the incident go. The snowball began with a call to local police. But Bull didn’t stop there.
In fact, it was her Facebook post that made all the difference that day. Her friend, Jerome Henry, shared the screenshot of Jarrell’s hateful message, which led to discovering where the man lived –Lawrenceburg, Kentucky.
A call to the authorities there led Bull to speak to Trooper Josh Satterly of the Kentucky State Police Department.
“I thought, ‘they’re not gonna care about my three black kids from New Jersey,'” Bull told CNN. “And this community genuinely did care about my kids.”
If she hadn’t pursued action, numerous lives most certainly would have been lost that day. Jarrell was discovered pulling out of his driveway, fully equipped and prepared to carry out a school shooting.
CNN reported that Jarrell had “more than 200 rounds of ammunition, a 100-round high capacity magazine and a detailed plan of attack.” His internet search history was also incriminating.
Jarrell has since been arraigned following his “not guilty” plea. He faces a preliminary hearing on Nov. 1.
Now this woman is being hailed a hero. She even appeared on “Ellen,” opening up about the events that unfolded that day.
“I needed a dad,” she told Ellen. Bull expressed that Satterly was “amazing,” treating her kids like he would his very own.
Ellen even surprised the Bull family by bringing Satterly onstage. They all embraced and several of them wiped away tears.
This is a happy ending for more than just this sweet family of four, who Ellen is sending to Fiji, by the way. The state of Kentucky also wants to thank her, and she’s been asked to be in Anderson County’s annual Christmas parade.
Wow! What an amazing story. I think Koeberle said it best when she told CNN, “If you see something, say something — I never took that as seriously as I do now, and now I know that it matters.”
