Southwest Flight Attendants Go Extra Mile To Help Onboard Couple Celebrate Baby’s Adoption

Unless you’re traveling via first class, flying can be an exhausting, stressful and all-around uncomfortable experience.

You wait in line, sacrifice leg room and munch on a tiny bag of peanuts while trying to focus on the end goal — your destination.

But flights get delayed. Airports become overcrowded. And those tiny airplane bathrooms? Just forget it. Whoever said flying was fun must have been joking.

Then again, some airlines have made it a point to go above and beyond for their customers. If you’ve ever flown with Southwest Airlines, you may have even come across a singing flight attendant or two.

Southwest also offers free checked bags. Yes, there’s a lot to love about the airline with a heart in its logo. Just ask Carl and Melissa Pascarella.

In May, the couple snagged some last-minute tickets on a Southwest Airlines flight from Washington D.C. to Los Angeles.

The reason for the sudden travel plans? According to a video the airline company posted to Facebook, the pair was headed to meet the infant girl they would be adopting.

When they told the flight’s crew their reason for catching the plane, the Southwest employees went above and beyond to ensure Carl and Melissa’s flight — and landing — would be one to remember.

Not only did the crew get the entire plane involved, asking passengers to write down their congrats and well-wishes on napkins, but they also called ahead to the Pascarella’s destination airport.

When Carl and Melissa arrived in L.A., what awaited them on the ground was more than they ever expected. They were greeted with welcome signs and even a baby gift set.

“Our People are our strongest asset here at Southwest,” the Southwest media team told Liftable, a section of The Western Journal. “As a Company, we are unified behind our commitment to going the extra mile for our Customers. But in the end, it’s about Heart.

“Corporate objectives and missions are not unique to Southwest, and I’d imagine most carriers have a similar dedication to Customer Service baked into their mission statement,” they continued. “What sets us apart is our People. All of the Employees in that story cared enough to do something special for that couple, to go out of their way because they knew how impactful it could be, and how much they wanted to shower them with love.

“We’re proud to foster a Culture that makes these moments possible, but we’re even more proud to employ People with a Heart for service, for going above and beyond.”

Congratulations, Pascarella Family! Your sweet baby girl was clearly welcomed with so much joy and love.

Are you a frequent flyer? If you’ve never taken a trip with Southwest Airlines, maybe this story will inspire you to book a last-minute flight of your own.
