Pawfect Solution: Police in Muncie, Indiana Let Residents Pay Parking Tickets with Pet Food
Paying for a parking ticket is never fun, but the police department in Muncie, Indiana recently had an idea that managed to turn a painful part of adult life into an opportunity for the community to band together to accomplish something great.
On July 15, the Muncie Police Department took to social media to announce a unique partnership.
For one week only, anyone who owed money for a parking violation could pay for their fine with cat supplies instead of cash.
“Pay your parking tickets in cat food!” the department wrote in a tweet.

“The Muncie ACS is overrun with cats and kittens,” the police department wrote. “We want to help!”
The Muncie County Animal Shelter had recently been inundated with more cats than it had the means to care for, and was in need of assistance.
According to FOX 29, the shelter had over 350 cats and kittens housed at their facility.
The outpouring of support was huge and went beyond just those who had outstanding fines.
Muncie PD later shared a photo on their Facebook profile that showed the incredible amount of cat food and supplies they had collected with their unique request.
“We greatly appreciate everyone that donated supplies this week to the Muncie Animal Care & Services,” they wrote. “This room was almost empty before we started! Most of the folks that donated didn’t even have parking tickets.”
Regardless of the driving record of the donors, the shelter expressed immense gratitude for the timely and overwhelming community response.
“We are incredibly grateful for the support we receive from the community, and this is such a wonderful opportunity to help your local shelter,” Muncie ACS posted.
“Thank you to the Muncie Police Department for putting this together!”
And, even though the drive has come to an end, it will continue to have a profound, positive impact on the shelter.
Muncie PD made it a priority to inform concerned citizens that they can still donate to the shelter at any time.
“Just a reminder, the shelter can always use donations for their animals!” they included in their Facebook post.
The true brilliance of Muncie PD’s supply drive was it’s ability to transform a frustrating thing like a parking ticket into something that empowered the community to make a change.
