Cop Visits Doughnut Shop on Wedding Day. But Walks in Door to Find Three-Year-Old Blacked out From Seizure
Law enforcement doesn’t get days off, even on their wedding days, apparently. Indiana Police Officer John O’Rourke was suddenly called to save the day right before he walked down the aisle.
O’Rourke was in the Orlando area for his upcoming wedding and decided to grab breakfast at “Donuts to Go” only hours ahead of the ceremony. There, the off-duty cop was suddenly called into action.
As he was waiting in line, he noticed a loud commotion happening in the dining room. Soon, he realized that a 3-year-old girl was having a seizure.
Seeing that the paramedics were not yet called, O’Rourke sprang into action. He instructed bystanders to call 911 as he began emergency medical procedures.
After a few minutes of chest compressions and rescue breathing, the young girl regained consciousness. Soon after, medical assistance arrived; the girl was absolutely fine thanks to Officer O’Rourke.
O’Rourke walked back to his car and took a much-needed minute to himself. “I just sat in my car, for about 20 minutes, processing everything,” he said in an online statement posted on Facebook by the IUPD.
He walked into the shop for breakfast but wound up saving the life of a little girl and receiving a free box of doughnuts. The hilarious moment wasn’t lost on him.
“It had to be a doughnut shop,” he said. “You can’t make this up.”
Later that day, he walked down the aisle with his fiancée, Virginia. His friends and family attending the wedding had heard about the encounter but weren’t shocked.
“You know John,” one of them said. “He’s always at the right place at the right (or wrong) time.”
Talk about being a first responder. Now, he’s rightfully being praised as a hero.
“Should’ve gone to longs donuts,” someone jokingly commented on Facebook. We’re sure the little girl and her parents are incredibly grateful he didn’t.
