LeBron leaves hundreds of fans hanging as his first act in LA

Share

We know that when you’re in Los Angeles, it’s best to be fashionably late.

But you’re still supposed to show up!

Apparently, someone forgot to tell LeBron James that because the newest Laker stood up thousands of his fans Monday who were lead to believe the basketball superstar would be showing up at a local pizza restaurant.

The speculation started with a tweet from James hinting at a special pizza party in honor of him joining the Lakers.

Yes, the pizza chain was giving away free pizza at each location. But thousands of people interpreted James’ tweet to mean he was going to be appearing at the restaurant as well.

While it wasn’t spelled out that James was going to be on hand, per se, this seemed to be a typical LeBron tweet: cryptic, and portending something big.

So thousands of fans of all ages showed up at Blaze Pizza in Culver City, hoping to catch a glimpse of No. 23.

Will the Lakers reach the Conference Finals?

The fact that the store owner didn’t know anything about James making an appearance should have been a big clue. After all, think about how much security would have been needed for something like James’ debut.

As the time went past, the free pizza appeared, but LeBron did not.

James has appeared at a Blaze restaurant before. As a large (figuratively and literally) stakeholder in the company, LeBron worked the line inside one of the Blaze sites a couple of years ago.

We know that James was in Los Angeles Monday, because the top thing on his list of “things to do today” was signing his new four-year contract with the Lakers.

He also made time to relax in his swimming pool, according to an Instagram post from James’ wife.

Whatever else James planned on doing after signing his deal, it did not include a stop in Culver City.

As word leaked out that LeBron wasn’t making his L.A. debut, spirits were dampened.

I’m sure most fans in L.A. will forgive James for this apparent misunderstanding and just be happy he’ll being wearing the purple and gold for the Lakers this season.
