LeBron tells college basketball star 'he better go pro'

LeBron James is a big fan of Oklahoma’s freshman phenom Trae Young.

The Cavs superstar even offered some career advice for the young man: take your talents to the NBA, sooner rather than later.

At Tuesday morning’s shootaround prior to his team’s game in Oklahoma City against the Thunder, James was asked about Young and his impending decision of whether or not he should declare for this year’s NBA draft.

Before the reporter could even finish asking the question, James had an answer.

“What decision? That ain’t no decision,” James said. “That’s like saying I’m waking up this morning, brushing my teeth. That ain’t no decision.”

“He better go pro,” James added.

Young, the 6-foot-2 freshman point guard, is having a phenomenal year for the 23rd-ranked Sooners, averaging 29.5 points and 9.4 assists per game.

In addition to leading the country in scoring, Young also leads the nation in assists.

And he has drawn comparisons to Warriors guard Steph Curry.

A reporter then asked James, who went straight from high school to the pros, what Young’s biggest adjustment will be when going pro?

“How much money he’s going to spend monthly and how much he’s going to save,” James said. “That’s the only adjustment he’s got to worry about.”

In most mock drafts, Young is projected to be picked fifth or sixth.

With the Nets first-round pick this year, courtesy of the Kyrie Irving trade, the Cavs currently have the 7th pick, assuming all the ping pong balls fall the right way.

But the Nets, at 19-39, are just one win ahead of Memphis, Dallas, Phoenix, Orlando and Atlanta, and two wins better than Sacramento, the team that currently has the worst record at 17-38.

In other words, they are in prime position to get Young.

Judging by James’ admiration for the player, one wonders if James would re-sign with the Cavs should Young fall to Cleveland.
