For those who are unfamiliar with important events in Disney animated history, Nov. 17, 1989, was a very important day, indeed.

On this date, Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” hit theaters in the United States. It was a time when Disney animation needed a revival.

Well, that’s exactly what happened, and a new era of Disney Animation began, known to fans as the Disney Renaissance.

According to Time magazine, the film’s most iconic song — “Part of Your World” — almost didn’t make it to the final cut. Can anyone imagine this movie missing its most memorable scene?

Thankfully, despite an early screening in which the song seemingly bored younger members of the audience, “Part of Your World” remained.

And, as Mickey Mouse would say, oh, boy are we glad it did! This song gives me goosebumps every time I hear it, and Jodi Benson’s voice never fails to make me feel as if I am truly a part of her world.

“28 years ago, my life was forever changed by the release of The Little Mermaid,” Benson wrote on Instagram in 2017. “I still remember every moment from my audition to the premiere and I will forever give thanks and praise to God for blessing me on this incredible journey.”

Benson seems like a truly sweet and genuine lady. She even made a special appearance at fan’s wedding recently.

A video originally posted on Facebook by Carlisle Photography captured a very special moment in which the bride became “the girl who has everything.”

“It’s a special wedding when Jodi Benson, the voice of Ariel, is a surprise guest at the reception,” the caption reads. “CONGRATS Chris Rowe & Krysten Green!”

Watch as the bride’s father asks her to recall her favorite Disney movie. Without hesitation, Krysten answers, “The Little Mermaid.”

If this happened to me, I’d be crying, too. Who am I kidding? I am crying right now! What a truly magical moment this Ariel fan will surely never forget!

Though most well known for her fin-tastic role as the redheaded mermaid, Benson also voiced Barbie in “Toy Story” and the animated, thumb-sized princess in “Thumbelina.”

Still, Ariel remains the favorite. You can catch Benson voicing her original iconic character when “Ralph Breaks the Internet” hits theaters on Nov. 21.
