Man Arrested After Threatening To Kill Trump Supporters and Nearly Running Over GOP Volunteer, Police Say

Liberals frequently preach “tolerance”… but a shocking number of radical leftists instead seem to adhere to a much more violent worldview.

While the media seem to have quickly forgotten about criminals such as the leftist who opened fire at Republican lawmakers in Washington, D.C., similar disturbing incidents continue to happen.

The most recent occurred in New York, where a deranged man threatened to kill Trump supporters on Friday.

Suffolk County police arrested 75-year-old Martin Astrof of Nesconset after he allegedly made death threats against Republicans and then nearly ran over a conservative campaign volunteer.

Astrof went to the campaign headquarters of Republican Rep. Lee Zeldin and “became irate” with a campaign worker, police said.

“After threatening to kill the campaign worker and other supporters, Astrof backed his car up in an aggressive manner nearly striking the worker,” police said.

One look at the charges filed against the man makes it clear that officials are taking the incident seriously.

Astrof is charged with making a terroristic threat, a felony, and second-degree reckless endangerment.

Zeldin, the Republican congressman whose campaign workers were threatened, took the attack personally. He took to Twitter to express outrage about the current political climate and point out that it’s part of a larger trend.

“In the US, political scores are settled at the ballot box, not by trying to kill your political opponents,” he declared.

“Donato Panico [the campaign volunteer] is a great American, supporter of @realDonaldTrump & one of my campaign vols,” he continued. “He shouldn’t have been targeted like this today for his passion & involvement.”

Do you think radical rhetoric is encouraging political violence?

In a separate tweet, the representative praised the volunteer as a great citizen who has been helping others since 9/11.

“After 9/11, Donato Panico drove from his [Long Island] deli to Ground Zero to feed the 1st responders. In thanks, 1 of the 1st responders gave him a flag flown near the pile,” Zeldin said. “This flag has also been flown in Iraq & today I gave it to [President Trump] in the Oval Office at Donato’s request.”

“[A Democrat] today tried to run Donato over w a vehicle & threatened to kill him for backing Pres Trump & I. Ppl shouldn’t fear death or serious injury for backing their Pres & Rep,” the congressman said.

Thankfully, this incident was not as severe as other violent crimes such as the congressional baseball shooting, yet it still represents a disturbing shift in the political landscape.

It’s worth asking if liberal rhetoric such as California Rep. Maxine Waters‘ recent call for liberals to harass Republicans is triggering an unhinged segment of the population. For all the talk about “going high” from Democrats, they sure seem to be intent on going low.
