An unsettling scene that can be uneasy for some viewers to watch was caught on film at a fiesta tournament in Mexico over the weekend. Matador Luis David Adame was gruesomely impaled in the groin by the horns of a bull, according to The U.K. Sun.
The gruesome incident occurred during the first round of the festival at the plaza Santa Maria de Queretaro, Mexico.
As Adame taunted the bull with his muleta (red cape), the massive animal swiftly changed direction and headed straight for Adame’s lower half.
The bullfighter was unable to move out of the way in time, leaving him in the bull’s direct path. The agitated bull then gored the helpless matador in his groin before sending him airborne.
Adame’s colleagues reportedly rushed over to his aid as he stood up with blood pouring down his leg while he attempted to cover the wound.

He was carried out of the ring before being rushed to the hospital where he is now recovering and reportedly in stable condition.
Dr. Rafael Vazquez Bayod spoke with local media source Aplausos on the status of Adame’s injury.
“Luis David Adame has suffered a large goring in the scrotum that tears the skin in 10 centimetres,” Bayod said, according to The U.K. Independent. The tear reportedly injured Adame’s testicles.
Adame tweeted on Sunday that he was recovering in stable condition.
“Fighting a bull, relaxed and focused in Queretaro, when suddenly comes that betrayal that sends you flying and turns your whole world upside down. Still, nothing compares to the feeling when the fans cry out for the “Torero!” (bullfighter). I will see you soon,” Adame wrote, according to U.K. Metro.
Bullfighting is a long-standing tradition in Spanish speaking countries. According to Humane Society International, the controversial entertainment involves a matador attempting to stab a raging bull’s cervical vertebra with bandilleras — traditional harpoon-like arrows — before a designated time-limit runs out.
While Adame’s incident is gruesome, it is not uncommon, nor the worst-case scenario in the world of bullfighting.
A bullfighter was impaled in the neck during a festival in Mexico in October, as reported by The U.K. Daily Mail. The festival was held to provide support for victims of the deadly earthquake that killed over 300 people the month before.
According to The U.K. Independent, a matador was killed in June after tripping over his cape and being gored by a bull during the Corrida des Fetes in France.
