Melania's Poll Numbers Just Took a Landslide-Sized Leap... Even Dems Love Her

Share

If there is one member of President Donald Trump’s White House that always seems entirely at ease and unperturbed by the constant media-perpetuated chaos all around, it would be first lady Melania Trump.

Ever poised and always graceful, the president’s beautiful wife largely stays out of the spotlight and works quietly behind the scenes, and without a doubt serves as a stoic rock upon which the president can rely for support.

According to the Washington Examiner, that perception of the first lady appears to be shared by a majority of Americans as a recent poll revealed her favorability rating has reached its highest level in the history of one particular poll.

In the most recent SSRS poll conducted May 2-5 on behalf of CNN, the first lady was viewed favorably by 57 percent of respondents as compared to 27 percent who viewed her unfavorably and 14 percent who registered no opinion.

That is a marked difference from the last time this particular poll asked respondents about the first lady in January, when Trump tallied a 47 percent favorable rating to 37 percent unfavorable.

Perhaps the most surprising bit of news to come from this poll is the fact that Trump’s increase in popularity largely came from Democrats, whose approval of the first lady jumped by roughly 15 percentage points from the previous poll, though she is still viewed unfavorably overall among Democrats with a 38 percent favorable rating to 40 percent unfavorable.

Along those lines, she saw an increase of 6 percentage points among Republicans, who already hold her in high regard. With GOP voters, the first lady stands at 85 percent favorable and only 7 percent unfavorable.

Ideology aside, Trump is viewed favorably by 60 percent of all men and 54 percent of all women, with an unfavorable rating among those two groups of 23 and 30 percent, respectively.

It’s worth noting that the first lady surpassed her previous high favorability mark set in March 2017, shortly after the president took office but prior to her moving into the White House full time, when she scored ratings of 52 percent favorable and 32 percent unfavorable.

Do you believe the media is generally fair in its treatment of Melania Trump?

According to CNN, the rise in Melania Trump’s favorability may stem from a sympathy factor on her behalf in light of the “numerous salacious stories regarding alleged infidelities” in the Trump marriage that CNN has gleefully helped keep a sharp focus on for the past several months.

As an aside, the constant media harping on the alleged infidelities hasn’t really had a negative effect on President Trump’s approval ratings either, as his current job performance in regard to the economy, employment and jobs, international trade and foreign policy seem to be more important to voters than alleged affairs a dozen years ago.

Conversely, CNN actually noted that during the scandalous affairs of the former President Bill Clinton’s second term in the late 1990s that led to the impeachment effort he survived after lying to investigators, then-first lady Hillary Clinton also saw a sympathetic bump in her favorability while the president saw his numbers decline from the low 60s to 51 percent.

CNN also pointed out that Melania Trump’s favorability has lagged behind that of her two most recent predecessors at this point in their husband’s first terms, as Michelle Obama rated a 62-25 in 2010 and Laura Bush scored 67-8 in 2002.

Left unmentioned is the fact that both of those women had received tons of glowing press coverage, including positive interviews and flattering magazine covers, while Trump has been largely ignored or mocked by the same media outlets.

Nevertheless, the current first lady appears to pay no mind to the many detractors and haters who attack her and continues to rise above the nonsense to focus on her priorities, such as overseeing the White House social scene while raising her son Barron and focusing on children in need in America and around the globe.

That is no suprise to those who have been following the Trump family throughout the tumultuous presidential campaign and first year in office, and is quite likely the most obvious reason why she is such an increasingly likeable figure, even among many Democrats.
